Monument Rock Engagement Session
There are many cool places along the Colorado Front Range and Rachel and Jake’s Monument Rock engagement session near the town of Monument in Colorado was one of those spots. Locals in the area know it as a great little easy hike with a beautiful rock formation at the end of the easy 1.3-mile trail.
The official parking lot for the trail is Mount Herman Trailhead. However, a little Monument Rock engagement session hack that I use is to park in the lot further up the road at the crossing of Mt Herman Rd and Schilling Rd. It shortens the walk to less than half a mile (I think) and gets you straight to the area you are aiming for. I never like to have couples bring backpacks with water and snacks because it interrupts the flow of the session.
Some things to note: You will likely contend with some wind, especially near the rock and the sun goes behind the mountains long before sunset so you will go from hard light to soft light with very little “golden hour” light inbetween. That doesn’t necessarily mean bad light, it’s just something to be aware of.
A Monument Rock engagement session is great for a playful couple who like to be outside and aren’t worried about a bit of wind or dust in their engagement photos.
